Forventning og håb er et gennemgående tema i Bibelen. Løftet om en kommende frelser udtales allerede på Bibelens første blade i forbindelse med syndefaldsberetningen.
Herefter gentages løftet direkte eller indirekte gang på gang gennem alle skrifterne i Det gamle Testamente. Profeten Ezekiel hører også Guds løfte om den kommende Messias, der vil velsigne det jødiske folk og gøre det rigere end før. Når Messias kommer, skal de virkelig forstå, hvem Herren er. Det Messianske håb har levet i årtusinder i det jødiske folk, og det lever fortsat i bedste velgående.

Forventning og håb er også et væsentligt tema i kristendommen. Vort håb som kristne har dog et andet fokus end i jødedommen. En troende jøde venter på, at Messias skal komme. En troende kristen venter på, at Messias, Kristus, skal komme igen for at oprette sit herligheds rige.
Som kristne tror vi, at Messias er kommet. Han er kommet som Jesus af Nazaret. Med Jesus viser det sig, at Messias ikke kun vil gøre jøderne rige, men at Gud gennem sin Søn ønsker at dele sin rigdom med alle mennesker.
Som kristne ved vi, at Gud er for os, idet han ofrede sin egen søn for at vise sin kærlighed til alle mennesker. Når vi ser tilbage og tænker over Jesu liv og gerninger, styrkes vi ikke kun i troen, men også i håbet om, at Gud vil skænke os alt med ham.

Expectation and hope are a common theme in the Bible. The promise of a future Savior is already stated on the Bible's first pages in connection with the Fall Report.

Prophet Ezekiel also hears God's promise of the coming Messiah who will bless the Jewish people and make it richer than before. When the Messiah comes, they must truly understand who the Lord is. Expectation and hope are also a major theme of Christianity. However, our hope as Christians has a different focus than in Judaism. A believing Jew is waiting for the Messiah to come. A believing Christian is waiting for the Messiah, Christ, to come again to establish his kingdom of glory.
As Christians, we believe the Messiah has come. He has come as Jesus of Nazareth. With Jesus, it turns out that the Messiah will not only make the Jews rich, but that God through His Son wants to share His wealth with all people.
As Christians, we know that God is for us, sacrificing his own son to show his love for all people. When we look back and think about Jesus' life and deeds, we are strengthened not only in faith, but also in the hope that God will bestow upon us everything with Him.
