(Drug, Alcohol, Gambling, Sexual)
DEFINITION:
People with addictions have lost control of what they think, what they do or what they ingest into their bodies. The term "addiction" can be applied to harmful substances such as drugs, alcohol and cigarettes. It can also be used for harmful behaviors, such as forced play, sex, or mutilation of your own body. People can also develop addiction to things that are not harmful in themselves - such as food, hobbies, sports, etc. - but it is addiction when used in uncontrolled excessive.
FACTS ABOUT SUPERVISION:
So you think you're not addicted? If you answer yes to one of the following questions, you need help:
Do you use any medication other than those required and prescribed for medical reasons?
Can you get through the week without using alcohol or drugs?
Does your drug / alcohol abuse interfere with your parents, children, spouse, family or friends?
Does your drug / alcohol use make you miss days at work or school?
Have you been laid off from school, job, school or other positions because of drug / alcohol use?
Have you had a fight when you were under the influence of alcohol or a drug?
Did you do anything illegal to get alcohol or drugs?
Have you been arrested for possession of illegal drugs?
Have you been arrested for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol?
Have you had medical problems (such as memory loss, hepatitis, cramps, blackouts, flashbacksetc) as a result of drug or alcohol use?
Do you feel sick when you try to stop using drugs or alcohol?
You are a slave to what governs you. "A man is a slave to all that has mastered him" (2 Peter 2:19).
You cannot please God if you are controlled by addiction. “Those who are controlled by sinful nature cannot please God. However, you are not governed by sinful nature, but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you ”(Romans 8: 8-9).
Anything that harms your body spiritually, mentally or physically is sin. The Bible declares, “Do you not know that you are God's temple yourself and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for the temple of God is holy, and you are the temple ”(1 Corinthians 3: 16-17). Your body is a temple and you have to treat it like a sanctuary.
Addiction makes you lose control. When you are under the influence of an addiction, you lose control of your will, your body and your mental processes. If you have no control and God is not in control, you guess who is? Your enemy, Satan.
Drugs are related to wizardry. Revelation 18:23 speaks of the "sorcery" of evil men. The Greek word for wizards is "pharmakeia" which means "enchantment with drugs". Revelation 9:21 shows that those who do not repent of their "witchcraft" (enchantment with drugs) cannot enter the kingdom of God.
Legitimate drugs are not sinful when not abused. Every good gift comes from God, and legitimate medicines are gifts that help restore health and relieve pain.
There are many kinds of addiction. A person can be addicted to food, drugs, alcohol, games, sex or pornography. One can also depend on an activity that is not in itself wrong, but because of overindulgence in it becomes wrong.
God wants you free from all addiction. "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Then stand firm, and do not be burdened again by the yoke of slavery ”(Galatians 5: 1).
TRADE BY EVENT:
Admit that your addiction is sin. As long as you refuse to admit your addiction, you will not be able to tackle it. "He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but he who confesses and renounces them finds grace" (Proverbs 28:13).
Cut the root, kill the fruit. Addiction is a surface manifestation of a deeper need or problem in your life. Think about why you take drugs, drink, smoke, gamble, etc.? Do you feel better when you do? Are you doing this to try to escape the heartache and hardships of your life? Whether it is heartache, difficulty or negative feelings, etc., cut the root that supports your habit and you will kill the fruit - the addiction itself.
Ask God for deliverance. Pray not only for your addiction, but basic reasons behind it - your wounds, pains, rejection issues, etc. Punish any generation of spirits that will foster addiction. Bind the spirit of addiction from functioning in your life: "I tell you the truth, what you bind on earth will be bound in heaven and what you lose on earth will be loosened in heaven" (Matthew 18:18). Renew your mind by The Word, Prayer and Meditation.
Seek biblical rehabilitation. If you need help managing your addiction, find a biblical rehabilitation center or program.
Resist the devil. "Then submit to God. Resist the devil, so willhe is fleeing from you. Come near to God, and he will come to you… ”(James 4: 7-8a). You resist the devil and his temptations by prayer and the Word of God, which enables you to come close to God. You don't resist the devil when you have cigarettes or drugs in your pocket, just "in case it doesn't work" and you need them. Use your access to God to secure help in times of need (Hebrews 4: 15-16).
Change your lifestyle. Do not hang with people who use drugs or alcohol. Do not frequent parties or places where drugs or alcohol are used or games are taking place. Don't watch TV programs that promote drugs, alcohol, games, etc. through either screenplay or advertising. Do not return to the bondage of addiction (Galatians 5: 1).
Form a support network. Create a personal support network of people who have successfully recovered from addiction and can help you do the same.
Know that you will be tempted. Temptation is common when overcoming an addiction, but you can overcome it in the power of the Lord. When you are tempted by the enemy to engage in your habit again, remember that ... ”No temptation has caught you apart from what is common to humans. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also give you a way out so that you can stand up under it ”(1 Corinthians 10:13). There is always a way out. Take it!
Remember, you never fail until you stop trying. If you return to your addiction, do not give up in defeat. Ask God to forgive you and empower you to take control of the addiction and then begin again. Instead of condemning yourself, think of ways you can respond better the next time you are tempted.
WHAT GOD'S WORD SAYS ABOUT APPOINTMENT:
I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. (John 8: 34-35)
Because I want to do what's good, but I can't do it. (Romans 7:18)
For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, I don't want to do the evil - I still do ... What a lousy man I am! Who saves me from this dead body? Thank you to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! (Romans 7:19 and 24-25)
Those who are controlled by sinful nature cannot please God. However, you are not governed by the sinful nature, but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. (Romans 8: 8-9)
For if you live by sinful nature, you will die; but if by spirit you kill the wrongdoings of the body, you will live because those who are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God. (Romans 8: 13-14)
Put on the Lord Jesus Christ and don't think about how to satisfy sinful nature. (Romans 13:14)
Don't you know that you are God's temple yourself and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for the temple of God is holy, and you are that temple. (1 Corinthians 3: 16-17)
Everything is allowed to me - but not everything is beneficial. Everything is allowed for me - but I don't want to master anything. (1 Corinthians 6:12)
Don't you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit that is in you that you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought for a price. Therefore, God honors your body. (1 Corinthians 6: 19-20)
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, it all comes to the glory of God. (1 Corinthians 10:31)
For we are the temple of the living God. (2 Corinthians 6:16)
Let us purify ourselves of all things that pollute the body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God. (2 Corinthians 7: 1)
Therefore, stand firm in the freedom with which Christ has set us free and not be entangled with the yoke of bondage. For brethren, ye have been called to liberty; Only use not freedom for an occasion for the flesh, but earn love by love. (Galatians 5: 1.13)
So I say, live by the Spirit and you will not satisfy sinful desires. For the sinful nature wants that which is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit desires that which is contrary to the sinful nature. (Galatians 5: 16-17)
And do not be drunk with wine (or high on other substances) in which is excess; but be filled with the Spirit. (Ephesians 5:18)
Since you are then raised with Christ, put your hearts on the things above, where Christ sits at the right hand of God. Pay attention to the things above, not to earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, your life, appears, you too will appear with Him in glory. Therefore, die whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. (Colossians 3: 1-5)
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way just as we are - yet was without sin. Then let us approach the grace of gracethrone with confidence so we can receive grace and find grace to help us in our time of need. (Hebrews 4: 15-16)
A man is a slave to everything that has mastered him. (2 Peter 2:19)
